Cable glands typically clamp the cable by compressing a sealing and gripping element around the cable jacket when the gland is tightened, creating a stable cable entry and reducing movement at the termination area.
Cable glands should be selected to match the enclosure entry thread standard used on the panel or knockout, and the gland thread must be compatible with the mating hole to ensure proper engagement and mechanical strength.
Cable glands are installed by inserting the threaded body through the enclosure entry, securing with a locknut when applicable, and tightening the compression components to achieve the required cable retention and sealing level without damaging the cable jacket.
